Slovenia welcomes today's ratification of the Lisbon Treaty by the Dutch Senate. Following Hungary, Slovenia, Malta, Romania, France, Bulgaria, Poland, Slovak Republic, Portugal, Denmark, Austria, Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Luxembourg, Finland, Estonia, Hellenic Republic, United Kingdom and Cyprus (the latter having ratified the Treaty on 3 July), the Netherlands became the 21st country to have ratified the Lisbon Treaty. The progress in the ratification process sends a strong signal as regards the implementation of the Lisbon Treaty before the upcoming European election. We wish that the new Treaty would enter into force as soon as possible, as it represents an adequate compromise and foundation for further development of the Union.
More about the Lisbon Treaty, details of ratification procedures in individual Member States, and the benefits the Treaty brings to EU citizens is available on the web site: Europa – Treaty of Lisbon.
